Command line

llaves-cli is a headless frontend over the shared core library — the command-line sibling
of the desktop app, the way keepassxc-cli is the sibling of the KeePassXC GUI. Both call the same
core engine; neither depends on the other.
Why it exists
The merge engine and KDBX format code live in core, not in the GUI. So the honest way to test them
from a script — and to use llaves on a server or in CI — is a CLI that exercises exactly the same
code the apps run. Its command names deliberately mirror keepassxc-cli so the two can be compared
directly.
Commands
Read: ls (optionally recursive), show, search, db-info, export -f xml.
Mutate: add, edit, rm, mv, mkdir, rmdir — thin frontends over the core edit API, so
divergent vaults can be built from the shell.
Merge: merge (keep-newer by default, or --mode synchronize) and canon (a canonical,
sorted dump for diffing two vaults).
Offline: generate, diceware, estimate — the generator and strength estimator, no vault
required.
Design
Password is read from a no-echo console prompt or a piped stdin line; --key-file works on every
vault command. The CLI has no third-party dependencies — even the argument parser is
hand-rolled — keeping it small and auditable, in line with the project’s supply-chain discipline.
